What is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment is a term that refers to any activity that entertains. This can be anything from a movie to a concert. Generally entertainment is seen as something enjoyable, which is good because it can help reduce stress levels.

The word originates from the Latin inter tenere, wherein ‘to hold inside.’ The prefix inter means “inside,” and the suffix -tenere is related to the Indo-European root ten, meaning to stretch or extend.

Bates and Ferri (2010) define entertainment as an activity understood objectively, encompassing communication between text and audience from an external stimulus, offering pleasure and occurring in a passive form. Entertainment is also often able to hit on the points that our minds were evolved to deeply react to in order to function in society, such as backstabbing and murders.
